Abarelix is a synthetic decapeptide that is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist. Its main effect is to inhibit the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) by blocking the GnRH receptor, thereby reducing testosterone levels. Abarelix is used to treat prostate cancer.
