Basic Description

Structure and function ​:
Bradykinin is an active peptide composed of 9 amino acids, which is generated by kallikrein acting on kininogen. It mediates a variety of physiological effects by binding to bradykinin receptors (B1R and B2R):
1. ​​Vasodilation and permeability​ ​:Activates endothelial cells to release nitric oxide (NO) and prostacyclin, leading to a decrease in blood pressure and edema at the site of inflammation.
2. ​​Pain sensitivity ​:Stimulate nerve endings to release substance P and enhance pain signal transmission.
3. ​​Inflammation regulation​ ​:Promote mast cells to release histamine, exacerbating inflammatory response.
