C-peptide is a polypeptide composed of 31 amino acids and is part of the insulin precursor (proinsulin). It is released during the biosynthesis of insulin and does not have the biological activity of insulin. C-peptide can be used as an indicator to evaluate pancreatic β-cell function and insulin secretion.
