Basic Description

Structure and function ​:
Cecropin A is a cationic antimicrobial peptide composed of 37 amino acids, originally isolated from Cecropinus moth ( Hyalophora cecropia Its mechanism of action is to destroy the integrity of bacterial cell membranes through its amphipathic α-helical structure, leading to leakage of intracellular contents. It is active against Gram-negative bacteria, Gram-positive bacteria, some fungi, parasites and cancer cells.
