Desmopressin

Basic Description

· Desmopressin is a synthetic nonapeptide and an analogue of natural vasopressin.
· Its primary action is to increase water reabsorption in the kidneys by activating V2 receptors, thereby reducing urine production.
· Desmopressin also exhibits mild vasoconstrictive effects, but its principal function is antidiuretic.

· In vitro studies show that desmopressin significantly enhances water reabsorption in renal tubules.
· In vivo studies demonstrate that desmopressin effectively decreases urine output and increases blood volume.
· In clinical applications, desmopressin is used to treat central diabetes insipidus and manage bleeding
