Desmopressin is a synthetic nonapeptide and an analogue of natural vasopressin. Its primary action is to increase water reabsorption in the kidneys by activating V2 receptors, thereby reducing urine production. Desmopressin also exhibits mild vasoconstrictive effects, but its principal function is antidiuretic.
