Glatiramer

Basic Description

Structure and function:
Glatiramer is a synthetic peptide mixture composed mainly of four amino acids (glutamic acid, lysine, alanine and tyrosine).
Its main function is to regulate the immune system and reduce autoimmune reactions by mimicking myelin basic protein (MBP).
Glatiramer also has anti-inflammatory properties.
In vitro and in vivo studies:
In in vitro experiments, glatiramer was able to significantly inhibit the activity of T cells.
In vivo studies, glatiramer was effective in reducing symptoms and relapse rates in patients with multiple sclerosis.
In clinical applications, glatiramer is used to treat multiple sclerosis.
