Lepirudin

Lepirudin is a recombinant direct thromboxane inhibitor, which belongs to the group of platelet aggregation inhibitors. It is a 65-amino acid polypeptide that can specifically bind to and inhibit the activity of thrombin. By inhibiting thrombin, lepirudin can prevent blood coagulation and thus prevent thrombosis.

Basic Description

Structure and function:
Lepirudin is a recombinant direct thromboxane inhibitor, which belongs to the class of platelet aggregation inhibitors.
It is a 65-amino acid polypeptide that can specifically bind to and inhibit the activity of thrombin.
By inhibiting thrombin, lepirudin prevents blood from clotting and thus prevents the formation of blood clots.
In vitro and in vivo studies:
In vitro, lepirudin significantly inhibited thrombin-induced conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin.
In vivo, lepirudin reduced the risk of deep vein thrombosis and was effective in preventing thrombotic complications after cardiac surgery.
Clinical trials have shown that lepirudin has a good effect in treating heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT).
