Linaclotide

Basic Description

Structure and function:
Linaclotide is a synthetic tetradecapeptide that is a guanylate cyclase C (GC-C) agonist.
Its main function is to increase intracellular cGMP levels by activating GC-C, thereby promoting intestinal fluid secretion and intestinal peristalsis.
Linaclotide is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC).
In vitro and in vivo studies:
In in vitro experiments, linaclotide significantly increased cGMP production.
In vivo experiments, linaclotide was able to effectively improve constipation symptoms and relieve abdominal pain.
In clinical applications, linaclotide is used to treat IBS-C and CIC.
