Basic Description

Structure and function ​:
Melittin is a cationic polypeptide composed of 26 amino acids and is the main active ingredient in bee venom. Its mechanism of action is:
1. ​​Membrane damage ​：It inserts into the cell membrane through the amphipathic α-helix structure to form a pore, resulting in increased cell permeability or lysis (such as red blood cell hemolysis).
2. ​​Signal Regulation​ ​：Activates phospholipase A2 (PLA2), regulates ion channels, and induces inflammatory response or cell apoptosis.
