Triptorelin

Basic Description

Structure and function:
· Triptorelin is a synthetic decapeptide that is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonist.
Its main effect is to stimulate the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) by activating the GnRH receptor.
An initial transient increase in LH and FSH secretion is followed by a decrease in LH and FSH levels due to receptor downregulation, which results in suppression of ovarian or testicular function.
In vitro and in vivo studies:
In in vitro experiments, triptorelin can significantly activate GnRH receptors.
In in vivo experiments, triptorelin can effectively inhibit ovarian or testicular function and reduce sex hormone levels.
In clinical applications, triptorelin is used to treat prostate cancer, endometriosis, uterine fibroids and central precocious puberty.
