Vasopressin is a polypeptide hormone composed of 9 amino acids, which is mainly secreted by the hypothalamus and stored in the posterior pituitary gland. Its main function is to constrict blood vessels and increase blood pressure by activating V1 receptors, and to increase the reabsorption of water by the kidneys and reduce urine production by activating V2 receptors.
